Indigenous Ways of Teaching and Learning

Teaching Through Country, Story and Relationship

Indigenous Ways of Teaching and Learning explores how knowledge is shared, protected and passed between generations within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. This stream helps educators and learners understand that teaching is not only about content. It is also about relationship, observation, story, listening and responsibility to community and Country.

Across many First Nations communities, learning happens through participation, practice and connection. Knowledge is carried through story, language, kinship, Elders and lived experience. Therefore, this stream supports a deeper understanding of how Indigenous pedagogies shape the way people teach, learn and hold cultural knowledge. It also helps educators move beyond surface inclusion and towards culturally grounded practice.
